7 Ways You Can Make Instagram A More Deliberate & Meaningful Place
Like, share & support the work of your peers, collaborators and friends.
Limit your time spent on the app. Set a timer of use per day or week. You can adjust this in your settings.
Consider how you spend your time on the app. Draw a pie chart and allocate percentages for the following; scrolling, deliberate account check-ins, sharing, creating content, engaging with content i.e liking & commenting, communication i.e dm’s & messages. What do you see? What would your ideal pie chart look like?
Unfollow accounts that are not, nor are no longer; inspirational, educational, connective in nature, insightful, thought provoking, entertaining, or aesthetically stimulating.
If you’re not worried about spending too much time on IG already, but find yourself lacking inspiration; turn post notifications on for your favourite (mindfulness / creative) accounts. Let them inspire you. Let them reset your day, then keep going.
Utilise it’s communication tools with intention and mindful practice. Let friends know that IG DM’s might not be the best place to reach you if you’re wanting to spend less time checking Instagram. Let them know to send a text, contact you via Email or WhatsApp.
Use your voice. One of the most powerful things social media has to offer is it’s platform and the microphone it provides for you to share your experiences, findings, research, passions, etc. Share without self criticism or judgement. Share without thinking about how others will view you. Use your platform however it serves your person or practice.
