Wake Up With: Juliette Harkness
Wake Up With is a series devoted to the morning practices of our creative peers.
Today, we bring you greater insight into the morning rituals and routines of DEIJI Studios Director, Juliette Harkness.
Describe your sleeping space.
Calm, simple, bright and warm.
What time do you wake up?
At the moment I have my alarm set for 7am.
The first thing you do upon waking?
I shower to wake myself up, get dressed to do my daily morning walk, I’m addicted now it’s the only thing that gets me energised for the day ahead.
What do you need to get a good night's sleep?
A warm shower always works, also I try to allow myself 30 mins of reading in bed with a tea, it’s the best way to unwind and keep my eyes away from the screen.
Your AM Skincare / Self Care Routine?
I have a simple routine of a warm face wash, serum and moisturiser with a spf.
Morning beverages you can’t go without?
This changes all the time, though at the moment I drink a double shot decaf cap and pretend I get the buzz.
A typical breakfast might look like?
This sounds really bad but I’m not much of a breakfast eater, though on a weekend when the mornings are a bit slower I will tend to go something warm like poached eggs, spinach, avo and tomato with pretty much a whole bunch of parsley, I have an obsession with putting fresh herbs on everything.
On an average day you’ll…
Have my morning walk, rush the kids to school, arrive late into the office, meetings and lots of emails.
On a more productive day you’ll…
Get to the office on time reply to all emails, spend the afternoon with the kids, laugh a lot and make a yummy dinner with my husband.
When you’re exhausted, you’ll…
Treat myself with my masque from LESSE and zone out to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
You start work around what time?
I try to start at 9am though I’m always late to everything.
What’s on your morning to-do list on an average day?
I try to keep it as simple as possible without feeling overwhelmed. A walk, coffee and if I’m lucky a swim in the ocean.
If your ideal morning had a soundtrack?
Fistful of Love by Antony and the Johnsons.
